Stanford returns to online courses for winter term, requires students to get a booster
STANFORD, Calif. (KRON) – Classes at Stanford University will be online for the first two weeks of the winter term starting Jan. 3, 2022, the university said in a letter Thursday.
Stanford strongly encourages students to receive a COVID-19 booster injection before returning to campus after vacation – all students without medical or religious exemptions must provide proof of a booster injection by January 31, 2022.
The school cited the Omicron variant as the reason for making these changes.
In-person training is expected to resume on Tuesday, Jan. 18 after Martin Luther King Jr.’s vacation, according to the letter.
The university is requesting, although not requiring, that students take a COVID test before returning to campus. Students who test positive are asked not to travel.
However, those returning to live on campus over the weekend of Jan. 1-2 must take an additional rapid test upon arrival.
“Teachers are encouraged to be flexible and not penalize students if they cannot start attending in-person classes on time due to a positive test,” the letter said.
