ISRO invites applications for a free online course on the Global Navigation Satellite System

ISRO is offering a free online Global Navigation Satellite System course to be delivered over 12 days by IIRS
ISRO has announced a free 12-day online course called Global Navigation Satellite System for interested participants. The course is offered as an outreach program by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, a center of the Indian Space Research Organization. The course aims to meet the urgent demand for skilled manpower in remote sensing, geographic information system, global navigation satellite system and related geospatial technologies.
What will ISRO’s free online Global Navigation Satellite System course cover?
The objective of the course is to give an introduction to GPS and GNSS, receivers, processing methods, errors and accuracy. The course will cover the following topics over a period of 12 days:
- GPS receivers, processing methods, errors and accuracy.
- Satellite Based Augmentation Systems and Augmented GPS and GEO Assisted Navigation (GAGAN).
- GPS signal characteristics and data formats (broadcast and precise ephemeris).
- Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS).
- DGPS demonstration.
- Advanced GNSS processing.
- Development of satellite navigation technology, TRANSIT, TSKLON, GNSS: GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and Beidou, principle of GNSS, segments and applications.
- Satellite navigation.
Who can participate in the ISRO Free Online Course?
The course is open to the following participants:
- Undergraduate students.
- Postgraduate students.
- Technical or scientific personnel of central or state government, professors or researchers of universities or institutions.
Course study materials like pdf lecture slides, video recorded lectures, open source software and demonstration materials among others will be made available through the online class. In addition, video lectures will also be uploaded to the IIRS Learning Management System (E-CLASS).
How to Apply for ISRO Free Online Course?
- Interested participants can register for the course via the official site as individuals or through the nodal institute.
- To participate in the outreach program of IIRS, interested organizations, universities, departments or institutes must identify a coordinator from their side who will register their institute online as a nodal center on the IIRS website.
- The coordinator will need to approve course participants.
