Schools in Goa closed: With the COVID-19 situation still remaining precarious in the state of Goa, the state government has decided to extend the closure of schools and colleges until 15and February 2022. According to the latest update, schools for students of all grades including upper secondary i.e. grades 11 and 12 have been ordered to remain closed until 15and February 2022 following the increase in cases of COVID-19. Along the same lines, all higher education institutions, including universities and colleges, have been instructed to follow the virtual classroom model and not call students to campus for on-campus activities. learning before the middle of next month.
Teachers authorized to organize online lessons from schools
However, one relaxation that has been allowed in regards to COVID-19 restrictions is that now teachers and professors have been allowed to visit schools in order to deliver online lessons to students. This move appears to have been made by the state government to make the process of teaching online easier for teachers, who might face issues with the same while doing it from home. This news was confirmed by Goa Revenue Secretary Sanjay Kumar.
Institutions of higher education authorized to organize examinations
According to media reports, the latest ordinance passed by the Goa government has also allowed tertiary institutions to hold exams in offline format. However, all exams must be conducted in strict compliance with COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions. Students, exam invigilators and exam authorities have been asked to follow social distancing guidelines with spaced seating.
Situation of COVID-19 in Goa
Earlier, the state government ordered the closure of all educational institutions in the state until January 26, which has now been extended until February 2022. The decision to extend the closure of schools and Colleges in Goa was taken during a meeting of the High Level Working Group, which was chaired by Goa CM Pramod Sawant. The decision was made after reviewing the current situation. According to data shared by the Goa health department, the state reported 1,582 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday with 8 deaths. This brought the total number of active cases in Goa to 19725.
